Baskerville – Disco Biscuits

Disco Biscuits is the debut album of Baskerville. The producer duo from Haarlem, Thijs van der Klugt and Bart Possemis (ex-Relax), already had some attention through an EP from 2009 and because of their remixes for names like Pete Philly & Perquisite and The Do. Now the gentlemen are also acknowledged by the Dutch 3FM radio channel, that gave Baskerville the title as Serious Talent. So far the future is looking quite bright for the duo.
On “Disco Biscuits” we hear a mixture of electro, hiphop, rock and pop music. The sound is pretty diverse, but the binding factor is the pounding beat, which is the upper sound in most of the tracks. With the vocal inputs of Jacqueline Goveart (ex-Krezip), Bart van Liemt (The Sheer) and Pete Philly, they are surely making an attempt in becoming the new electronic pop/rock band.
“Devil’s Town” is most likely influenced by the likes of Digitalism, hearing the sound. “Ready To Blow” on the other hand, shows a lot more pop music in the electro sound they bring. After this there’s a bit more funky and hiphop-orientated “Fool For Love”, where you can hear a lot of influences by Daft Punk, Digitalism and Justice. It’s especially interesting to have Pete Philly performing the vocals in one track, namely “To The Crib”. It’s a pretty cool electro-hiphop track, of which there are more on this album.
“Disco Biscuits” is more than a decent record, even though the sound isn’t that original. Nonetheless it’s a good attempt by these Dutch guys to bring some electro vibes in The Netherlands. Yet there is no reason to call them the Dutch Daft Punk, or the new Daft Punk for that matter. Their sound is still pretty different from the French, and a lot more pop-orientated. Seeing the fine tunes which you can hear on this album, I’m pretty sure to predict that these lads will be topping the Dutch pop charts in the coming year and hopefully they will be able to influence the Dutch pop music. It will be most likely that you will be able to catch the guys on a festival nearby in the future.

Bart Possemis (ex-Relax)
Ex-Relax? Wow, that’s surprising. Bought their first two albums (Odeur de Clochard and Pirates Among Puppets) but after that, Relax was quite… dead. Oh well, I really enjoy Baskerville and saw their live performance on LowLands on 3voor12.nl, it’s awesome.
