Is there a god? Is his name Siriusmo? Who is Siriusmo? Is there a bit of Siriusmo in all of us?
Why Siriusmo is a god…

The Artist

Moritz Friedrich is an artist who is known by the name of Siriusmo. Being probably one of the most unknown heroes of the electro scene, Siriusmo slowly stages onto the big shots. Several people claim Siriusmo to be a god, some of them even saying he’s the new Daft Punk. The Berlin-based artist’s name will be shouted all over the world in a couple of years.

Moritz Friedrich is, by all means, a true artist. His love and devotion in the arts of design and music are far beyond one’s dreams. A great designer and musician, that’s something not many are able to acclaim. Friedrich played in a band for many years and he’s a fan of old keyboards. Siriusmo is a professional artist, doing painting, illustration and graffiti. Therefore he “lives off temporary jobs and even does construction work now and then”. It’s a fact that Moritz doesn’t love the club culture and isn’t doing much stage action. So far you’ve only been able to see Moritz perform on stage on rare occasions (children’s birthday parties or other family get-together parties) – “and even then his mood is rather shitty due to his bad taking of criticism”.

As things have stand so far, Friedrich’s first love is being a graffiti artist, and music played second fiddle. Yet, there is hope that music will be playing a more important role, seeing as the German artist released another big EP on the label of Modeselektor and will release his first full length album next. He says his own production style uses “technical devices and a lot of fantasy to artistically cover up lacking musical abilities.” And although Siriusmo is acclaimed to be a great artist, he doesn’t feel like he’s one. He simply plays some stuff until he has found a decent melody, according to the man himself.

Next to this project, Siriusmo is also having a duo-project with Dana, who must be either his girlfriend or simply a good friend of his. Siriusmo & Dana create some very good music together, Moritz being the producer and Dana the singer. She actually helps him with many vocals for his tracks, and they are a great team together, which results in beautiful tracks like “Gummiband”.

Earlier Releases

Siriusmo has actually already released a butt load of tracks. All bits and pieces of art, spread over many different labels and years. He also has made many remixes, though the best ones are (always) for last. One of the best releases he did in the past are the “Wow” EP and the mini-album “Diskoding”. The track “Wow” has a real funky, psychedelic-like, synth-bassline sound. The result is a peacful and relaxed feeling. The “Diskoding” mini LP is most famous for the track “Meine Neues Fahrrad”, which Boys Noize had edited and was put on the big Boys Noize Records compilation. This track a good show starter and it’s no surprise that it has been played in many clubs over the world.

The Uninvited Guest

His self-therapeutic way of life shows a new side with “The Uninvited Guest”. Sometimes bold, sometimes heartsick, melodies that creep under your skin, serious drama, touching melancholy that collapses into absurdity and which makes fun of itself. Technical devices and a lot of fantasy artistically cover up lacking musical abilities. Moritz Friedrich already had quite a lot releases on respective labels. His one and only comment on those releases: “On each record there is one song that I still like, the rest – unfortunately – is shit.” And this is how a god would be speaking.

Some of the tracks of this EP are fine artworks. The third and final track on the A-side is “High Together”, which has an utterly sweet vibe in it. Innocent as a beast and great, warm synths along the way. Not forget to mention the vocals, which might be even sweeter. “Nights Off” uses old school synths to create a sound that is more French Touch than Berlin basement. Both of these tracks are pure brilliance, created by the German.

After this EP, many artists started to recognize his talents, which led to big name DJ’s like Cassius, Erol Alkan, A-Trak and Busy P playing his tracks, and “High Together” got licensed for compilations by the likes of Kitsuné. Since then Siriusmo has dropped remixes for the likes of Chromeo, The Gossip, Breakbot and Scissor Sisters, but his fans have always clamoured for more original material of his distinctly unique brand of electronic production.

The Plasterer Of Love

About a month ago, Siriusmo released his second release on Monkeytown Records, “The Plasterer Of Love”. According to an interview made by Fact Mag, the main reason for Modeselektor to create the label, was to support Siriusmo. The Plasterer Of Love, which introduces us to five new songs. All of them are particularly great, again. The best track of this EP is certainly “Einmal In Der Woche Schreien”, a carnal and epicurean hymn. It’s without a doubt that this track will strike the big DJ’s, artists, labels and listeners once more, preparing them for the release of his début album.

If we must believe Monkeytown Records, the story behind “The Plasterer Of Love” goes as follows:
“Where is no love, it needs to be created artificially. That’s for the plasterer of love to do. And he builds and builds, squeezes and tortures, slices, shapes, destroys and rebuilds, but he can never quite get it right. A strange sight. Agitated moves, his body in awkward positions, his face frozen, a grotesque mask. One wants to say to him: “Leave it, man! It’s gonna be okay.” or “Take your time and think about it again. You can’t force it anyway!” But the plasterer of love is not listening: “No no no! I have to do it! I have to get it right. That’s my job, my duty, I’m the plasterer of love!”

The Future

Being friends with him for so long, Modeselektor decided not only to back the producer on his début album, but also help him to finally get over his problem with being on stage. This has led to the fact that Siriusmo actually has already played a show in Berlin, which you can download below. As the story of a rising hero goes, it’s only time before we will witness a stunning first album release by Siriusmo on Monkeytown Records, followed by a world tour, which will have some ground-breaking visuals. After that Siriusmo will be crowned as one of the biggest producers and artists around the globe, and he will most likely enjoy a big load of fame.
Siriusmo is a great artist, who, even though he might not like it and/or enjoy it, will be recognized for his great talents sooner or later. A true and brilliant performer. One must not hide his excellence in skills, when they do great good for the man. And he won’t.

Llowtel

Vice, in collaboration with Converse, made the Llowtel action in which people can send in artistic and creative things, which has the theme “You’re Up. You’re Here”. The lucky winner will go to Lowlands along with 3 friends and will stay there in his or her own Llowtel (which is a big container that is rebuilt to a hotel). You have until August the 14th to send your stuff in.

Llimited Lowlands All Star

The Converse All Star is a much used festival shoe. That’s why it’s no surprise that the sneaker brand will be the main sponsor of the Lowlands festival in Biddinghuizen for the third year already. For this reason Converse decided to do something special.

In advance of the festival the brand pinted the Llowbot on the known Converse All Star. This weird little robot represents the theme of Lowlands this year: “Wanna play”. The result? The ultimate Lowlands shoe! Converse is once again settled on the festival area with its Converse Compound. The container village has of course more than enough challenges for Lowlands civilians and creative people. Which means you will experience some well-known things, like customizing the Converse sneakers and the Converse “Silent Disco”. But Converse also has other stuff to offer, like the exclusive Lowlands shoe with Llowbot print on it, which will be produced in limited edition! The shoe is exclusively for sale at Britain, Front Runner, the Converse store in Zwolle and of course on the Lowlands festival itself.

FreshCotton, chances are you’re already familiar with this webshop, but for those who have been buying their clothing at conventional stores for the past few years (that’s sooooo 1998), FreshCotton is a webshop that provides you with some of the most wanted clothing available. Brands such as Nike, Sixpack etc… are represented there and being regular customers ourselves, we were delighted to find out that the guys over at FreshCotton wanted to collaborate with us in a Mishka shirt give away.

“Music and fashion belong together”. So it’s always been, according to them. The Sonnets like good clothes. Très Bien Shop likes good music. A collaboration was easily made. The video to Montauk’s fantastic remix of “Sebastian Said” is their homage to good clothes and good music.

Montauk, a producer duo from Stockholm, made a remix of the original. Although the remix itself is done pretty smooth, the auto tune is a very controversial part. There are many people against it, especially in the electronic scene, and some are really fond of it. Personally, I don’t like it and I find it a waste of the pure sound in this track, but others might find it sound really good.

Trés Bien is a fashion store that The Sonnet’s like so they went and borrowed some clothes and shot the video on a desolated beach outside of Malmö in southern Sweden.

Do you remember the first time? The excitement you felt from the tape you stole from your older sister? The moment when you first fell in love with pop music. “We wanted to make something that bright and pure”. A pop music still blue-eyed, naive and and oh so young at heart. “We were inspired by the things that brought us back to that feeling”. The Style Council. The first summer with Charles and Sebastian in “Brideshead Revisited”. Prefab Sprout. Jimmy Connors last serve game against John McEnroe in the Wimbledon final in 1982. Emily Brontës “Wuthering Heights”. These things have together coloured “Sebastian Said”, the first taste from The Sonnets forthcoming album Western Harbour Blue.

The Sonnets’ single Sebastian Said has been released be released digitally February 24th by the Stockholm based music label Despotz Records.

If you start with the phrase “He’s Back”, you only have a few options to refer that sentence to. You can either refer to The Terminator, that hangover from last night’s party or you can refer to that one person who has the almighty ability to free your mind and lets you party all night. That’s right, I’m talking about Alex Ridha a.k.a. Boys Noize.

The rumour is true, Boys Noize is coming to town next weekend, May the 14th and 15th. Surely something you don’t want to miss. You might have never heard of him before or it might be the fifth time you’ve seen him. Point is, you can’t miss this one out!

When he was a little unknown DJ, he was already DJ’ing at Rauw in Club 11 and Tivoli. Today he’s one of the biggest names in the scene and it’s for a fact that no one can dislike this guy. His DJ sets are absolutely immense and they make you want to never stop partying.

He’s been a busy boy lately with the release of his second album “Power”, co-operations with his pal Erol Alkan and he just finished the new Chilly Gonzales album. It’s no wonder that he needed some time off and now that he had some time off, he’s ready to tour the world with his astonishing DJ sets again!

This time, next to host and resident DJ Joost Van Bellen, another guy from Boys Noize Records will be DJ’ing too! The Parisian Djedjotronic can be heard on both nights in Melkweg (Amsterdam) and Tivoli (Utrecht). The newest artist from Boys Noize Records has been acknowledged because of some big remixes and some dirty releases on the BNR label. He’s definitely good enough to check him out, and you can probably expect some hard and dirty Electro/tech-house music from his set.

Moreover, these two nights will have a very special surprise, and it will only be revealed for those who have been there! So make sure you don’t miss it! Next to this the Melkweg will have a new and exciting feature. The Oude Zaal will be turned into a lounge room by the name of The Korova Milk Bar Chill Out. 00Kaap will create an atmosphere like the movie A Clockwork Orange by showing the movie on multiple screens. While you be having a few cocktails, you can enjoy the sound of… non stop classical music! It certainly won’t disappoint you, because Von Rosenthal De La Vegaz – who has been touring with Vive La Fête – will be DJ’ing. Besides him, you can also enjoy the sound from Gluckenstuck & Glockenschpiel.

To make it short, it will be two nights will huge names, some secret names and boundaries are going to be broken! Make sure you don’t miss this out!

La Roux is het Britse electropop synth duo dat bestaat uit zangeres Elly Jackson en synthspeler, producer en schrijver Ben Langmaid. En als je ze niet van naam kent, ken je ze waarschijnlijk wel van de hits "Quicksand", "Bulletproof" en "In For the Kill" (met de alom bekende remixes van Skream, Le Castle Vania en nog meer bekenden). Na hun debuutalbum met ook de naam "La Roux", zijn ze ontzettend populair geraakt in zowel hun thuisland (Engeland), als ook in het buitenland. Het is dan ook niet vreemd als je hun wel eens op MTV hebt gezien. Onlangs stonden ze ook op Lowlands, waar ze iedereen versteld deden staan!

La Roux had de langgekoesterde wens om ooit een modeshow te organiseren, en Vice hielpen hen daarbij in samenwerking met Vodafone. En dit hebben ze allemaal gefilmd!

Vrijdag is het tijd voor F.A.R.T, Fashion & Art, in het Grand Hotel Central te Rotterdam. Tijdens dit evenement zullen hier dertig designers/artists en performers voor 1 avond hun intrek nemen. Allen mogen ze naar eigen wijze de kamers inrichten, gebruik makende van hun creaties. Een hotel is weer eens iets anders dan een galerij of een winkel. Oftewel een nieuwe en inspirerende manier om het publiek kennis te laten maken met al deze verschillende vormen van kunst en mode. Er bestaat de mogelijkheid om je te laten rondleiden door één van de vier vrouwelijke gidsen, maar natuurlijk kan je ook zelf lekker rondstruinen. Rond een uur of twaalf worden de kamers, gelegen op de eerste en tweede verdieping, gesloten en kan men op de begane grond genieten van een FARTY PARTY. Hier zullen verschillende artiesten optreden, waaronder Kate & Leopolt die ook al een grote indruk hebben achtergelaten tijdens het welkebekende SOEPHOER feest. Dus mocht je een gaatje hebben ga dan vrijdag zeker even een kijkje nemen!
