Porter Robinson played a huge set at Club MTV at Air, Amsterdam last Saturday! Nash from The Kool Kids took some pics which you can check out below through the link. Although his set had an awful lot of bangers in it, unfortunately since it was a commercial party with for instance The Partysquad in the line-up (no offence) his mixing skills weren’t as good as expected. Most of the time there was only a mix from one climax to another. So keep your eyes peeled for that next time Porter Robinson is playing in your town.

The Kool Kids were present at day 4 of the 5 Days Off Festival, which took place last week at Amsterdam’s most famous clubs; Paradiso and Melkweg.

We attended one of the biggest nights, as French upcoming talent Madeon and Finnish top-notch underground artist Huoratron played at Paradiso. Also playing at Paradiso night were great names such as Henzel & Disco Nova, LeLe, Russ Chimes and ex-Audio Bulleys “T”.

Off Centre Festival at Melkweg

On Friday September 30th we attended the Melkweg for Jamie XX, Rustie & more during the Off Centre Festival 2011!

At first only the Oude Zaal was open, where we got all warmed up for the night with some soft and fine disco tunes. Later on we witnessed the sweet sounds of Hyetal. When we visited The Max, Rustie was absolutely mindblowing in his melodic dubstep tunes! Bleepy tunes like “All Nite” resulted in the crowd going nuts, whereas it looked like people hadn’t heard about the lad before. In the end it was Jamie XX who the people were waiting for. With his soft disco and tech-house vibes a super-relaxed atmosphere was created. His last tune was of course his most known one; his remix of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep“. The first of September was the day CookieClub was born. The new club-night is held every Thursday in Club Air, Amsterdam. The nights will have a team of permanent hosts, which are Tettero, Rubix and Quinten909. Besides that there will be special guests every week.

Air is open on every Thursday for all that want to party, with the CookieClub being an excellent night out. Partyharders from all over Amsterdam are coming together here to celebrate the begin of the weekend by dancing to familiar house beats and filthy electro drops.

Every week you’ll be welcomed by the welcome committee,as they’ll be giving you things that remind you of the wild night you had. Thus you’ll be able to look back to that specific great night out.

Once a month there will be a photo shoot which is held by “De Fotomeisjes”. They’ll be hiding in a secret corner of the club and if you find them you have a shot on winning a spot on the poster of the next month’s event.
With the CookieClub nights is it all about (electro)house music, with certain vibes of disco, dubstep, techno or whatever you feel like dancing to. As we already mentioned there will be a permanent team of DJ’s who are hosting the night.

The DJ booth of Air became the home of the two DJ’s Tettero and Rubix. Because of the success of their sets in Club Air they were the chosen ones to host the CookieClub. The third resident is relatively young, new and refreshing DJ which we’ve reviewed before on The Kool Kids; Quinten 909.

We can guarantee you that those 3 guys will rock the dance floor.

Mysteryland 2011 photo-report

The 27st of August, Mysteryland held it’s 11th edition of his annual festival. Which is well known of it’s huge variety in line-up and things to do. From dancing on Martin Solveig till going mental on the DJ’s of the German Boysnoize Record label. And so The Kool Kids did, after an awesome interview with our fellow Dutchmen Dem Slackers, we started to visit the area around the stage. But soon we found out that we we’re at the wrong place as long we weren’t in the BNR area..
Again we took this crazy photo-report of the ambience. With Boys Noize, Dem Slackers, Mixhell, D.I.M. and Housemeister in it we can guarantee you, you’ll like the photos. Go check it out and don’t mind to share the album!

Bart Skils will perform the 24th of September in a new venue in Hilversum named: “De Vorstin“. De Vorstin offers many kinds of acts, it opened with an electro club night which had as headliner Hilversum’s pride Mightyfools. The club 44 nights are monthly nights and to create some diversity they also started with techno nights. This night De Vorstin’s own DJ’s Resident35, Pitto and Bart Skils play and give us some minimal/techno experience.

Big names such as Logo (Kitsuné) and Surkin (Institubes) were included in the line-up, so we were assured of some good music. When entering the venue, we took the elevator to the 10th floor. It was a pretty intimate party, situated way above the rest of the city.

Due to the snowy weather we arrived a bit late, which meant we could only enjoy the last part of the evening. When we came in, Surkin was the one behind the wheels of steel and it looked like he had a pretty good time. He was really into the French House stuff, playing up tempo beats with cut-up vocals. Then he went from Nu-Disco to something you could say was Jazz Disco, and later on he played some old school stuff. It was really a quality set by the French dude. Of course one of the highlights of the evening was his club version of Fan Out, which was enjoyed by many of the people that witnessed it.

Of course he also played his other new track called “Easy Action”, which has an Acid and French House/Old School vibe to it. It was one of those moments you had the shivers, simply because of the good music, the great vibe, the ambiance, the people, and the climaxes due to great mixing. He even got to play some acid tunes! I never witnessed Surkin playing some acid until now. In the end he just had to close off with some well-known tunes. In general I can say that you missed out big time if you haven’t seen the show Surkin pulled at the Jägerland party!

After that we got to see L’Azzizi ending the night with his DJ-set. His 2 hours of fun mostly consisted of what you could describe as a party set. One of the first tunes he played was “Benny Rodrigues – Stuiteren”, which is from the release of his Rotterdam Tribute EP, home to Boysnoize Records. He even played a dubstep track, to give you an idea of what I mean by party set. Unfortunately his DJ-set consisted a lot of bad mixing. Let’s hope it’s due to the booze and what not, and we won’t see it happen again. On other side note is that the MC of the night was very bothering. His presence was way too big and at a certain point he was more irritating than adding something to the vibe.

The Jägerland party was once more a success, and so was the whole tour this year. A great intimate party on a cold winter day at the top of Rotterdam. Let’s hope they continue the success in 2011!
