Although it’s a bit late, whatever news is out there should be reported and that’s why you will get to read it on the site. Most of you probably know Les Petits Pilous already. Les Petits Pilous stands for “the small pillows”, and why they’ve chosen this name is not known to use yet. They are a dj-duo hailing from, obviously, Paris and release some good stuff on the Boys Noize Records label. Though the last release of theirs is already a while ago, the new EP called “Bielle”, will be one we can look forward to.

This new EP will include “4 new diverse tracks with influences from noisy techno to disco-house which will bomb dancefloors.”

The EP will be released on 22th of March on 12″ inch Vinyl and as digital version.

Next week it’s another Rauw weekend! Like any other Rauw party, it will contain great music that goes on until the early morning. This time Rauw New Stijl will be having the amazing Joakim from France as guest headliner and also the rather unknown band Krikor from France.. Next to this Wanna Be A Star will be having a special surprise for us as she’s having the release party of her first EP, called “Party Party”, coming a live performance! You won’t miss this for the gold.

Op zaterdag 13 maart wordt de tweede editie van Rauw New Stijl wordt bepaald door het geluid van de Franse slag, met een typisch Hollandsche veeg uit de pan er boven op. Joakim, Krikor, Wannabe A Star en Joost van Bellen zorgen het gehele Rauw weekend van maart tesamen voor een line-up met lef. Resident-dj, host en muziekmagiër Van Bellen is beide nachten van de partij om de boel in goede banen te leiden en er voor te zorgen dat alle registers open gaan; oren, ogen en hopelijk de monden, want er is geboekt zoals men eerder niet durfde op Rauw.

Allereerst de grote naam uit Frankrijk: Joakim is hét multi-talent pur-sang, hij is niet voor één gat te vangen. Als er iemand is die zich niets aantrekt van afgebakende stijlen en geëffende paden is het deze Parijzenaar van het legendarische Kitsuné label. Ongrijpbaar omdat zijn producties zo enorm afwisselend zijn; zelfs in één enkel nummer weet hij nog alle hoeken van het spectrum te verkennen.

Krikor komt eveneens uit Frankrijk en zal een live-performance geven. Z’n bijnaam luidt ‘Funky-ass Frenchman’ en zodra je zijn muziek hoort, weet je waarom: elektronica die het achterste van je onderkant in beweging brengt. Hij brengt zijn muziek tot leven middels alle denkbare apparatuur waardoor hij ‘on the spot’ compleet nieuwe tracks creëert.

DJ Wannabe A Star kennen we vooral van haar hoog gehakte sexy dj-sets; zwaar vernieuwend en wild haar grenzen verkennend. Dit keer heeft ze wat meer in haar mars: het is tijdens dit Rauw weekend de release-datum van haar EP ‘Party Party’ , en Wannabe zal aan het begin van de nacht alle 4 nummers in een vlijmscherp kort optreden om de oren van het publiek slaan. Wannabe sluit in Amsterdam ook nog de nacht als dj af. In Utrecht staat natuurlijk het Berlijns-Utrechtse visuals-duo JPech de schermen te besmeuren met een beeld-kanonnade van jewelste.

Wat is er leuker dan één avond Rauwigheid? Drie avonden RAUW! En daarom is het tweede weekend van april RAUWEEKENDER (8, 9 en 10 april). Voor het vierde jaar alweer. We mogen inmiddels spreken van een top-traditie. RAUW-opperhoofd Joost van Bellen presenteert drie avonden live-acts en dj’s die het grensgebied tussen dirty dance,dikke disco en eclecticiteit opzoeken. Nieuw dit jaar is de RAUWEEKENDER AFTERPARTY.

De eerste avond van RAUWEEKENDER betekent een vliegende start met Aeroplane, het Belgische dj-duo dat elke dansvloer omtovert tot een beestenbende. Cosmic disco, balkan, psychedelische gitaren – als het maar beukt! Engelsman Rory Phillips (met fraaie hoofd-telefoon) draaide jarenlang de dansvloer gek in de Londense club Trash en doet dat nu bij de opvolger Durrr. De beste elektronica met af en toe een rauwe ouwe! M.E.N. is een band/dj-collectief uit New York (voortgekomen uit Le Tigre) met lekkere reggaehouse. Let ook op hun podiumact! Shout Out Out Out Out bestaat uit twee drummers, vier bassisten, een sampler, elf synthesizers en drie vocoders. Zoals ze zelf zeggen: neurotische dansmuziek!

Op de tweede avond van RAUWEEKENDER komt een heuse legende langs: Mr. Oizo, de Franse producer van de monsterhit Flat Beat, waarmee hij eigenhandig een nieuw genre creëerde. Produceerde erna nog ontelbaar veel rauwe tracks en de zaterdag te bewonderen Uffie. Riva Starr is een dj/producer uit Italië die als baby in een zigeunerkookpot is gevallen en daarom zoveel mogelijk balkan, folk en gypsy draait. Uit Den Haag komt dj-duo The Walk & Roger 72, beiden hebben een zwak voor de Franse house van Daft Punk en… Mr. Oizo.

Ook vanavond hebben we een legende: Green Velvet, Kraftwerk en Prince versmolten tot een hipster-housepionier. Zijn landgenoot Harvard Bass heeft twee gezichten: elegante minimal house aan de ene kant en bad-ass ghetto grooves aan de onderkant. RAUW-opperhoofd DJ Joost van Bellen maakt RAUWEEKENDER compleet!

Gorillaz is now living on a so called Plastic Beach, that leads them to a great journey of adventures.

The new video for Stylo is online, in full, right now. Follow our hero Murdoc Niccals on a dangerous trip to the mainland from his new home on Plastic Beach. Something goes badly wrong and Murdoc, Cyborg Noodle and 2D end up in a high speed car chase with a local cop and an unknown assailant. Every last Saturday of the month, Amstereo gives people the opportunity to get in touch with fresh upcoming dutch artists in the field of electronic music. In their own words, it’s an event filled with Dutch acts waiting for their international breakthrough. Both curious and anxious by the opportunity to witness history in the making, Gwenny and yours truly went to go see if this axiom would indeed hold true.

Armed with guest list spots, we arrived around twelvish to find an eerily empty Flexbar, which seemed like a bad omen of things to come. Despite Jack de La’s set filled with classics from artists like Daft Punk, there were few feet to dance to it. As the evening progressed, and the tunes only got better by Mr. Wix, we couldn’t help but starting to get worried. Was it the weather? Was there another event? Is electronic music jumping the shark?

Luckily though, we were reminded by a fortyish year old couple that you’re as young as you believe you are as they busted out some moves even kids nowadays would blush about. It was both sweet and heartfelt in a way that reminded us that you define the party, not necessarily in numbers, but in spirit. It was around this time too that it was starting to get a bit more crowded with on the one hand your obligatory teenage hipsters, and on the other hand the ones I would like to call veterans; the latter being the sort of people you always end up bumping into at parties like these. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is something I’ll leave for you to decide.

But enough about that, there was clearly one act in particular that we wanted to go see, being Shook, whom we’ve been covering since pretty much day one. Filled with high expectations after seeing him perform in the Atak earlier in 2009, and being curious how he has been honing his skills in the mean time, we were expecting to get blown away again this time by his own tracks filled with his trademark feel of funk and electro. And boy, disappointed we were absolutely not, as we not only got a glimpse of new tracks but got to dance to his better known tracks too mixed in with classics from yesteryear. In particular, I remember Rise and Fall being remixed into Justice’s Genesis, followed up by the chemical brothers mixed into a track I couldn’t yet identify. All in all, it seems Amstereo did well inviting Shook as even though his set only lasted 45 minutes, it was worth the 2-3 hour trip I had to make to be there.

After congratulating the man himself on an excellent set, Rogerseventytwo and the walk picked up the turntables again but by then, we didn’t feel anything could top Shook for us that evening and decided to call it a night. In the wardrobe we asked random people what they thought about the evening and in particular about Shook. Where one girl said he wasn’t as good as Mr. Wix, another guy said that he was pretty damn good. I suppose there is no account for tastes other than your own, but as a frequent listener to his tracks, I would recommend you to go check him out whenever you can. In conclusion, we really do believe Shook has the potential to make an international breakthrough, it was just a shame not a lot of people got to witness it this time.

Sometimes you have to adjust the music you listen to the day of the week. And as that goes for a Sunday, it means that some relaxing music would be appropriate. And we think we have exactly the right artist for you to come through this day with ease. That artist’s name is no other than Toro Y Moi.

Toro Y Moi is the solo project of The Heist and The Accomplice lead singer Chaz Bundick from the United States. As for influences, it varies from all kinds of music such as Electro, Psychedelica, Rock and “even some R&B”. All these influences create a very mellow sound, crafted by his electronic instruments.

“Toro Y Moi turns the aforementioned musics upside-down with his breathtakingly innovative approach. The incendiary power of Toro Y Moi’s funky synth and guitar play, pumping digital rhythms and gorgeously bright vocal harmonies makes for a formidable combination. A soon to be masterpiece of a currently unnamed genre.”

The artist just released his first album called “Causers Of This”. Although the high use of Sidechain could be slightly over the top, the soft synths along with the mellow voices create a smooth atmosphere in which you can dream through your Sunday. The track “Causers Of This” – just like the album title goes – has a certain old school vibe in it, which you can hear especially well when you focus on the beat of the track. The track may remind you of an old American show from the 80’s or 90’s, or maybe it just reminds you of an old music clip you liked when you were young. The track, which finishes the album, is a great closer of the dreamy set.

It’s because of these feelings, reminders and experiences we recommend you checking this artist and his album out, which could even be named as “timeless”, but perhaps that’s not for us to judge.

The zombie is striking back! After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release ‘Nightcall’ as an apéritif. ‘Nightcall’ is the first song Kavinsky provides vocals for, a duet you might say, featuring the zombie and his girlfriend, a.k.a. The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and mixed by SebastiAn. The remix of this song, by a mysterious Dustin Nguyen, is an outstanding pop song that everyone can enjoy.

On the other side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic ‘Pacific Coast Highway’, in which we follow a ghost car on the highway. The remix job is by French avant-garde producer Jackson. His epic 9 minute long version is unmissable.

Not so long ago Quinten 909 was signed at GirlsLoveDJsRecords. Within a few weeks his first release Sophia – not to confuse with Silva from Miike Snow – hits the ground. This release will contain remixes by The Kool Kids friends’ Homework and from Extra Medium. Soon after he will have his second release “Closer To Me”. This record has been created along with Mayhem, the “talkbox genius” from the US – known for collabs with Plump DJ’s, Louis La Roche, Pendulum and more. This release will also contain a remix by Tom Trago.

Besides releases for GirlsLoveDJs there are some remixes of his that will strike the label from Patrick Alavi “RoXour”. The remixes that are going to be released on the label are from “Call Me” by Silver Disco and “How Much That Means To Me” by Patrick Alavi himself.
According to the Quinten dude it’s “going to be really cool!”, so we can’t wait whether it’s worthy our coolness.

But, what we do find cool for sure is the follow lovely pieces of art music Quinten909 has sent us! The first one we’re going to talk about is Fred Falke – When I Look Into Your Eyes (Quinten 909 Rework). This rework of the lovely French House artist is really smooth and slightly more banging than the original. As usual for French House music, this tune gives you a lovely French “summer at the lake between te mountains in the sun shine” vibe. Easy listening, excellent to enjoy and feel happy about.

The second track we’re going to excite you with is another remix, namely Keenhouse – Ari-es (Quinten 909 Remix). Now this remix is a lot more spacey than the first – I wouldn’t say experimental as quite keened out. This track is lovely for dreaming about future achievements, thinking of old love affairs and all the so-and-so.

Last but not least! Quinten 909 sent us the Heartbreaker EP he did with Leonardus! This one will guarantee you a “happy listening” experience. The summer vibe through the guitars are all about happy dancin’ and disco! With this EP he continues his way of being an artist in the groove of his sound, feeling the vibe, and when saxophones come along, you know that summer won’t be far away! The EP is a collaboration with Leonardus and contains the tracks “Heartbreaker”, “Dreamer”, “Show The World” and “Eye To Eye”.

On Friday March the 5th, Dr. Lektroluv and Sound Of Stereo will be playing at Metropool, the new club in Eastern Netherlands. Metropool is situated in Hengelo and is the new location for great music in that area. Be sure to check this venue out, as Metropool will be having tons of great artists! Also the venue itself looks great, so that’s another reason to go.
