In anticipation of the intense night you are almost sure of to experience, we’ve had a little talk with Aziz a.k.a. L’Azzizi (who will also play at the event). He’s the guy behind the Révolt events and responsible for this party.

Who or what is Aziz?

Aziz aka L’Azizzi is DJ, Executive Supervisor in the nightculture and marrocan, and that all in one! Also known as the cultural troublemaker/rebel/hooligan/yahoo since the scene left the crack of the door open to him.

When someone wants to hang out with you, what can he/she expect?

Free entrance and drinks all night long. No guarantee to get back to the hotel though.

What’s your favourite night out?

If the interaction between the crowd and the music is like the one between me and the girl next door, those are the nights that work for me the best. If it’s the right timing, beautiful things might happen.

How much do you love Rotterdam?

I would give up my 1971 450 SLC and never eat KFC nor download any movie again to be in this city. My life would be over If I had too chose between that and Rotterdam. Thank god I don’t have to.

What kind of stuff do you do in the city of Rotterdam?

Besides DJ’ing I try to be creative wit finding unique spots and gather some cool crowds to go nuts on the music that’s doing it for me right now. We did some crazy nights in movie theaters, brothels, closed animal farms (nothing unethical), parking terminals and crazy locations you wouldn’t think of for a party.

How important is are Revolt events to you?

For now Révolt is doing some amazing things. Thanks to Mojo concerts there’s a blazing line up on the 29th of April in Rotterdam. There are 4 big rooms in an old factory that used to stock grain. There’s even one room on the tenth floor looking over the whole city.

If you had to describe or express the crazyness of organising such an extraordinary event like this…

First of all the line up is arranged thanks to Mojo concerts and after that’s it’s a smooth ride. People are talking about it for months and with only 2 weeks to go I can’t find the rights words to describe the crazyness. I keep daydreaming and reminiscing about Soulwaxmas (2008, at the same location). It’s going to be hard!

Where can we get tickets?

I’ll let you guys decide who to please with 2 guestlist spots and otherwise go to livenation.nl and look for Révolt.

Can you tell us where the afterparty is for Révolt?

I can promise you that there will be one. I’m playing for 6hours and there should be some kind of hadliner playing there too (I think).

What are your plans for the coming year?

Well Révolt is planning on to do some cool stuff. There are talks for an outdoor edition on top of a closed train station and another edition before the end of the year. Also I’m working on some cool collaborations and I’ll make sure to keep you guys informed.

What’s your best gig so far?

Closing at Soulwaxmas is by far the nr 1. I hope this show will return to Holland soon.

Who’s the sickest dude out there according to you?

Pffff there are many…. even local heroes are amazing me with the stuff they bring nowadays. If you’d put a gun against my head and made me choose I would go for Giorgio Moroder. I would love to have him play at Révolt some time.

How Kool are you?

VNNR is een Belgische DJ. Hij is nog aardig onbekend, maar hard op weg om zijn naamsbekendheid te vergroten in de electro scene. Met fidget – en dirty-electro geörienteerde tracks, weet hij al snel een feestganger op zijn hand te krijgen. Hier de biografie in het Engels:

“There’s not much we know about VNNR. He’s a Belgian, that’s for sure and he makes damn noisy tracks! His remix of Estelle’s American Boy got noticed by Don Rimini and his first official remix (for Canadian techhouse producer Matt Herdman) spend weeks in the top 20 in the Beatport Indie Dance charts.
Quite a promising start for VNNR, and much more to come from this Antwerp based producer. Btw VNNR is pronounced “vinner”.”

INTERVIEW

Ik zou zeggen dat VNNR Kool is, anders zouden we nu kunnen afronden.

VNNR spreek je uit als “vinner”, zo ben ik bekend onder de vrienden.

Vrij weinig.

Yes! Het is van jongs af een droom om eens in het buitenland te performen,
en die wordt nu werkelijkheid.

Goh, “doorbraak”… Het was even schrikken toen Don Rimini hem speelde in z’n Kick ‘n Run mix.
Ik denk dat hij daardoor de wereld is rondgegaan en m’n naam hier en daar is blijven hangen.

Moeilijke vraag, ik ben steeds op zoek naar nieuwe dingen en probeer te evolueren en te experimenteren.

Dat zijn er veel. Het is allemaal begonnen met Michael Jackson, nadien de rock met Nirvana, Metallica, Guns ‘n Roses,…
De dag van vandaag heb ik zoveel goeie artiesten ontdekt, van vroeger en nu. “The best of Fleetwood Mac” zit nu in m’n autoradio.

Ik ben beginnen draaien rond m’n 17, nu 8 jaar geleden (man ik word oud). Heb toen ook al m’n spaarcenten gegeven aan een mc-505 van roland
en ben van tijd tot tijd wat beginnen spelen. Ik maakte vooral drum & bass toen. Sinds 2 jaar ben ik iets meer met producen bezig, en probeer ik me toch
minstens 1x per week een avondje op te sluiten in m’n studio. Hoewel dit niet altijd gemakkelijk is met een drukke job en een leuke vriendin.

Ik ben bezig met een paar remixes voor MSMD, een nieuw label uit België.

Ik zou dit jaar graag een EP uitbrengen, verder zien we wel hoe het loopt.

Fake Blood (wiens identiteit inmiddels bekend is: DJ Touche) brouwt er een interessante mix van. In het eerste uur van deze Essential Mix worden we getrakteerd op de wat meer dansbare kost, waarna hij in het tweede uur overschakelt naar een wat rustigere versnelling.

In de woorden van de man zelf:

“The theme was this:

Rather than just bang it out for 2 hours (yawn) I thought I would split it into 2 distinct halves, and show a wider range of music I love. Plus it makes it more interesting to put together, and to listen to hopefully: The 1st hour represents THE CLUB, and is the kind of stuff I am playing out. A bit heavier for that apex of the night.

But the 2nd hour is THE AFTER PARTY, and is me playing other stuff I love, but goes a bit deeper, stripped back, melodic and unusual. Music to watch the night turn into morning. It’ll definitely throw a few people, but that was kind of the intention.”
