One week ago, at Friday March the 26th, the first party in a while of Genesis was held in Paradiso. Genesis is a party, held by Beesmunt and The Walk & Rogerseventytwo, of whom I’m sure you you’ve heard before. At this night’s show, there were some fantastic artists you were able to witness! And by that I mean listening to people like Boombass (Cassius), Jackson (Warp), Breakbot (Ed Banger Records), DSL (Ed Banger Records) and of course your hosts Beesmunt and The Walk & Rogerseventytwo!

First thing we saw when coming in was Boombass behind the decks, which automatically meant that we were unfortunate to miss Beesmunt playing. Boombass played a lot like the Cassius style is. A bit of French Touch House, mixed up with some Tech House and besides that also some bangers like Green Velvet’s “Turn It Up” and Hey Today!’s “Talk To Me”. His mixes were quite fast and abrupt, which didn’t always turn out to be good. All in all his DJ set was pretty decent. It had some fresh tunes mixed with some old bangers, yet sometimes it lacked a bit of smoothness.

After Boombass we went to see Jackson play in the room upstairs. Jackson’s style is a lot rougher, which attracted me in a very good way. He has nice breaks and raw sounds. Besides a lot of his own tracks, also from his Smash album, he also played some new electro bangers like Boris Dlugosch’ “Bangkok”. While shaking his head, his long hair quietly waves in the air, as his banging music is heard, giving him total mysterious impression. Jackson had a great set, almost perfectly mixed and if you ever have the chance to see him perform, you should check him out.

Back in the main room of Paradiso, the one and only Breakbot was playing! The French guy played a fresh mix between old classic “Ed Banger” electro tunes and unknown, new and exciting stuff. While constantly tapping on his feet, the music he plays has a great impact on the crowd and people seem to enjoy the music very much. Yet Breakbot wasn’t wearing any headphones at all, using his Behringer midi-controller and laptop to mix his tracks.

In order to end this night, The Walk & Rogerseventytwo played a lot of fine tunes, of which also some of their new tracks. I was told though that their first album won’t be released yet, but an EP will come instead. Although slightly disappointed with this news, it didn’t affect my night that much, seeing as residents played a great set. They had a lot of smooth transitions along with some great tracks of genres like French House and Electro.

Looking back to the first edition of Genesis in a while, I can proudly say I had a great night. A big crowd attended, all consisting of good people who looked like having a good time, shaking their booties. I enjoyed lovely music and partied until about 5 in the morning and thank the hosts for a good organisation. Let’s hope for many Genesis editions to come in the future.

The pictures are taken by our friends from The Big Funky Disco.
See more pictures taken by them that night here.

This Friday, the first Genesis party since a long time will be held again, at venue Paradiso in Amsterdam.
Genesis is a party, organised by Amsterdam-known artists Beesmunt and The Walk & Rogerseventytwo, whereas the latter will release their debut album very soon.

“Of course everyone is familiar with our Genesis party at Paradiso. If not, let me take you back to the creation. About two years ago two Dutch DJ/producer duo’s, The Walk & Rogerseventytwo and Beesmunt Soundsystem, noticed a difference in Holland compared to their next door countries. The reservedness, or how the Dutch like to call it “nuchterheid”, people used when going out had to leave. Why couldn’t we dance like the Brits or go mad like the Belgiums?

So we created Genesis (do you notice the poetry?), the party you can do a sit-down without being looked at as if you were a freak. The party where you can enjoy music at your own way. We would take care of good music. And we did! Of course we played ourselves, but we also invited guests to come and party with us like Diplo, Strip Steve and the Casiokids.

And now after a short break we come back with our biggest line-up untill now. Friday March 26th we have tons of good music for you. Freshly signed by Ed Banger but our friend for years, Breakbot (Ed Banger Records) will come and let us hear his newest tunes. Tomorrow I will post a mini-interview with him so keep checking this blog. Our second artist is one of the godfathers of the French House scene, the world-famous Boom Bass (Cassius). With his partner Zdar he forms both Cassius and La Funk Mob, and with the last alias he remixed Breakbot’s latest single. Then we have the guy with the sickest breaks you’ll ever hear, Jackson (Warp). It has been a long time since we heard from him but together with his Computerband he will rock you like never before. Then Ed Banger’s hiphop collective DSL (Ed Banger Records) who will not only play hiphop but will also let you hear some fine electro tunes. All these Parisian artists are accompanied by Beesmunt, The Walk & Rogerseventytwo, Jeff Solo and the Teenage Lady Killers.

In celebration of this new start, The Walk & Rogerseventytwo and Beesmunt went into the studio to produce the first “Genesis EP”. The EP has three tracks; “The Creation” by TWR72, “Dido” by Beesmunt and a remix for “The Creation” by Beesmunt.”

Download Genesis EP here.

Tracklist:
The Walk & Rogerseventytwo – The Creation
The Walk & Rogerseventytwo – The Creation (Beesmunt Remix)
Beesmunt – Dido

Win!

You have the chance to get free tickets for this awesome party, as we’re giving away 2×2 tickets.
The only thing you have to do is mail to contact@thekoolkids.com and include the following:
- Your name and the name of your friend
- Convince us why this party will be so awesome that we have to give the tickets to you

Our French zombie Kavinsky is back with a striking EP called “Nightcall”. After having barely heard something from the lad in the past several months, the French blue haired artist has teamed up with no other than Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (Daft Punk) and SebastiAn, who mastered the tracks.

Here’s what Record Makers has to say about it:
The zombie is striking back! After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release ‘Nightcall’ as an apéritif. ‘Nightcall’ is the first song Kavinsky provides vocals for, a duet you might say, featuring the zombie and his girlfriend, a.k.a. Lovefoxxx from CSS!

The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and mixed by SebastiAn. The remix of this song, by a mysterious Dustin Nguyen, is an outstanding pop song that everyone can enjoy.

On the other side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic ‘Pacific Coast Highway’, in which we follow a ghost car on the highway. The remix job is by French avant-garde producer Jackson. His epic 9 minute long version is unmissable.

‘Nightcall’ is composed of 4 tracks, representing the sensual, epic and romantic French sound like never before.

Tracklisting:
A1 Nightcall
A2 Pacific Coast Highway
B1 Nightcall (Dustin Nguyen Remix)
B2 Pacific Coast Highway (Jackson Remix)

Release date: March 15th

You can Pre-Order a limited edition of the “Nightcall” EP here.
It only costs 10,- (excl. shipping costs), so hop on it!

UPDATE: You can now hear a trailer of “Nightcall” on his myspace.

Here’s a very bad capture of presumably “Pacific Coast Highway” if you’re up for it:
