The oldest member I believe from Ed Banger Records, has proven once more that he’s more than a simple unknown producer and DJ. Yet in fact, Mr. Flash is a gem, and Pedro Winter a.k.a. Busy P can be proud to have him on his team. The early days, when Mr. Flash released his first EP “Rader Rider” on Ed Banger Records, were definitely some good ones. It’s no surprise that Busy P states that Rader Rider is one of the most important and inspiring tracks for him, and surely has motivated and helped him in his career of setting up Ed Banger Records.

Now, the Parisian artist has released an amazing EP called “Blood, Sweat & Tears“. The EP is pretty varied and has some unique mixtures, sounds and influences if you will. To top it off, the artwork of this EP is outstandingly done by respected artist So-Me from Ed Banger Records. Besides this, the videoclip of the track “Flesh” is one not to forget.

“Flesh” is a creepy, scary, yet exciting tune to hear. Just like the sick minds from Mr. Oizo and SebastiAn, Mr. Flash fits perfectly in line with this track, which – when listening to it – slowly creeps inside and won’t let hold of you. It feels like a brainwash and it most definitely has some deep and original tunes in it, which is also a pretty good signature of Mr. Flash’s work in general. Finally, the end of the tune has some synths of it which may remind you of the soft and warm sounds like Justice produces. The videoclip, by Cédric Blaisbois, really captures these sounds and feelings and transforms it into a dark and exciting display. Perhaps a bit to pornographic at start though, which can slightly distract you from listening to the music.

But it’s not only this track that entails the core intention of this EP. Also the other tracks, which are pretty different to the latter, play a significant role in the creation of this release. “Domino Part A & Part B” are both really pretty and innocent tracks. “Couscous” gives you, just like the name tells you, a real eastern feeling. It’s a track that you either really like or dis-like I must say, because it has some typical sounds, which you can often find in the Mid-East. Honestly, I’ve rarely heard such a tune and for that I have mad respect for this tune. “Motorcycle Boy” is an almost western-like tune, mixed with the deep kick drums, that are typical to Mr. Flash’s sound. The song is pretty smooth and great for a summer motorcycle road-trip day. The final track is “Powerlight“, which ends the EP in a joyful and melodic way. The start of it even reminds me of the intro of an 80′s TV show.

They started their band by the name of “Poney Poney”. While not really being too fond of it, I was pretty satisfied with that name. After having some tracks released on the Institubes label, the French band, consisting of Antoine Hilaire (vocals & guitar) and Florent Lyonnet (bass & vocals), was facing some troubles and quit for a short period. Now though, after having overcome those issues, the French Rock band is back with a whole new lay-out! “Poney Poney” has turned into “Jamaica“.

“We’re now called Jamaica. Because this is a great band’s name, because we’re off for a fresh start and we hope you follow us. Our first album is in the making these days, almost done. It’s produced by Xavier de Rosnay and Peter Franco in a basement somewhere in Paris. We’re extremely enthusiastic about it. For those who knew Poney Poney, you’ll find some songs you might have heard before, only enhanced or completely changed. And a lot of new things too. Our first video is being completed these days by So-Me for our first single. It’s called “I Think I Like U 2″ and will feature extremely impressive technologies like photography, drawing and such. You’ll get to understand the band’s name too. We just played our first live show in Amsterdam at Melkweg (Of course The Kool Kids were there to witness it) and are really happy with it. A lot more gigs are to be announced, don’t miss us when we’re coming to your city.”

So the Parisian duo is going to release their debut album very soon. Pretty exciting stuff, especially when Xavier de Rosnay (Justice red.) is producing the album! Xavier also produced the old Poney Poney stuff like “Cross The Fader” and “When Do You Wana Stop Working”. Next to Xavier, Peter J. Franco is also producing the album. He was no other than the sound engineer of Daft Punk, therefore you can expect some fine tunes on this album.

Their latest track is called “I Think I Like U2″. It’s produced by Xavier de Rosnay and Peter J. Franco and directed by Ed Banger designer So-Me and Machine Molle. This video is truly a piece of art to say the least.

Vanaf het moment dat The Kool Kids binnenkwamen, zagen we dat het goed was. Bij binnenkomst gaven we onze jassen af, en rechts van ons werden meteen een paar bekenden gespot; namelijk Pedro Winter (Busy P, de label baas van Ed Banger Records), die stond te chillen met Xavier de Rosnay en Gaspard Augé a.k.a. Justice . Uiteraard gingen we even op de foto, die genomen werd door Xavier. Naar eigen zeggen wilde Justice graag Jamaica (formerly known as Poney Poney) zien spelen.

Allereerst werd de Oude Zaal bezocht, waar So Me draaide. In een goede ambiance waar een tintje Eastpak aan zat, stond So Me lekker te draaien. Voornamelijk kwamen hits, zoals Mr. Oizo‘s “Gay Dentists”, voorbij, welke meerdere malen deze avond gedraaid werd. Duidelijk was dat de franse designer en artiest een betere set neerzette dan de vorige Ed Banger Records night in de Melkweg.

Daarna gingen we naar de MAX om Jamaica live te zien spelen. Jamaica is de band die je wellicht kent als Poney Poney. Ze speelden een heerlijk set van electro/indie rock, en een nummer deed me zelfs aan AC/DC denken. Wel jammer was dat de show slechts een half uur duurde, maar een half uur hebben we wel kunnen rocken. Hun (myspace) moet je zeker gaan checken als je van electro/indie/alternative rock houdt.

Na Jamaica begaven we ons weer naar de Oude Zaal, waar Breakbot (het nieuwste lid van Ed Banger Records met al een aardige reputatie op zak). Mensen die zijn “Dance On Glass” mix hebben gehoord, weten wat voor een set hij gaat neerzetten. Een perfecte set van French House en Nu-Disco met een relaxte ambiance, waarbij de nummers perfect werden gemixed. Het enige minpuntje was dat hij op een gegeven moment hits zoals “Boys Noize – Starter” en “Major Lazer – Pon De Floor” ging draaien, die totaal niet in zijn set pasten. Verder was het een van de beste sets van de avond.

Daarna begaven me ons nogmaals naar de MAX, om daar het hoogtepunt van de avond te zien, namelijk Boys Noize. De Duitser, die bezig is met zijn “Power Tour” vanwege de release van zijn tweede album Power, bracht een grote rave te weeg. Mensen die ellebogen in hun gezicht kregen, mensen die over de railing vielen, mensen die hun schoenen kwijt zijn geraakt.. Zo zijn er nog meer gevallen te bedenken, die hebben plaatsgevonden. Het publiek was door het dolle heen. Oude hits zoals “Lava Lava” kwamen voorbij, maar ook de laatste tracks zoals “Boys Noize & Erol Alkan – Death Suite”, en natuurlijk de nieuwste tracks van zijn album, waaronder “Transmission”, “Starter”, “Jeffer”, “Nerve”, “Trooper” en “Drummer”. Muziek van andere artiesten kwamen ook voorbij, waaronder “Dancin”, een track van de nieuwste EP van Strip Steve.
Alex Ridha zette weer een uitstekende set van electro en techno neer, en aan het eind ging de mensenmassa soms bebloed naar huis.

Tijdens Boys Noize was het in de Oude zaal de beurt aan Busy P om zijn kunsten te vertonen. De minimaal verlichte zaal vulde zich langzaam maar zeker met een publiek dat weer klaar was om lekker los te gaan. Het welbekende wekker geluid aan het begin Warp 1.9 van The Bloody Beetroots ft. Steve Aoki passeerde de revue en werd succesvol verwerkt in één van de mixen. De overgangen waren zeer vloeiend en hiermee bracht hij een goed staaltje werk naar voren. Het was een plezier om naar te luisteren!

De Superrauw & Decked Out avond was dus zeer geslaagd. Een good ol’ rave party, zoals die hoort te zijn. Volgende keer mag je het zeker niet missen!

Het verhaal gaat te ronde dat sommige Ed Banger Crew leden de V.I.P. ruimte niet binnen werden gelaten,
en er een misverstand was. Toen een uitsmijter van Cinespace de label vriend Kavinsky een duw gaf, werd het oorlog. Het werd een knokpartij tussen de Ed Banger crew leden en de uitsmijters van Cinespace.

Een paar mooie actie foto’s met boze gezichten van Kavinsky, Busy P, Thomas Bangalter ( De Daft Punk brother die op Pedro’s verjaardag een liveset gaf ZONDER helm) en So-Me.

Tijdens  het feest werd ook naar wat gezegd wordt een nieuwe track van SebastiAn gedraaid.

Anders vergeten we even mooi de rest van de filmpjes te plaatsen met o.a. Mehdi en Thomas Bangalter

De set die Thomas Bangalter draaide bestond uit slechts 3 tracks; Daft Punk’s “Rollin’ And Scratchin’”, DJ Mehdi – Signatune (Thomas Bangalter Edit) en… Prince’s “Raspberry Beret”!
Men zegt dat ook Guy-Manuel (de andere helft van Daft Punk) aanwezig was, maar die houdt zich nog altijd mysterieus schuil tussen het gewone publiek.

De clip van Kid Cudi’s ‘Day n Night’ is echt mooi!
En dan niet de commerciële versie, die we allemaal kennen maar degene die So-Me heeft gemaakt.
Wellicht is het ook een tip voor toekomstige samenwerking tussen Kid Cudi en Ed Banger Records?
