IKKI is misschien wel een van de meest opvallende artiesten uit de electro scene. Niet vanwege zijn appearance, maar vooral vanwege de sound en de insteek die hij heeft met electro. Hij maakt namelijk naar eigen zeggen muziek, die hij omschrijft als “Metal Electro”, en ik ben deze term niet eerder tegengekomen. Hij is ook naar mijn mening een pionier op het gebied van dit sub-genre (een der zovelen weliswaar). Zijn remixes bestaan uit enkel remixes van metal bands en zijn eigen tracks hebben een gretige, harde sound. Hij gebruikt voor zijn muziek zowel menselijke als electronische voices. Voor mensen die erg into de rock zijn is deze artiest zeker een aanrader, en voor die metal heads die je electro wilt aansmeren hoort IKKI als eerste op je lijstje te staan om hen te laten beluisteren. Hij is pas nog geen jaar bezig, maar nu al komt IKKI ondergronds aanstormen om te spelen op internationale festivals!

INTERVIEW

First of all, what does the name IKKI stand for? What does it mean?
It’s just the name of the phoenix knight in saint seiya as I was a big fan when I was young.

We ask all the artists that we interview if they’re Kool (since we’re called The Kool Kids). So, are you Kool?
No, I’m not cool I’m out of fashion

You seem to be heavily influenced by metal rock, did you also play an instrument and did you play in a band before?
Yes, I used to play the guitar and I had a metal band before when I was a teenager.

You call your sound Metal Electro if I’m correct, do you consider yourself to be the first one that makes this sound?
Of course not I’m not the first one, but maybe the first one to do a lot of Metal remixes.

Do you prefer to use a robotic/electronic voice instead of a real humans voice?
No I use both. In the Slayer remix I sing with my real voice.

You really like to remix big rock bands, can you tell us what you’re next remixes are going to be?
I would like to do Byob from SOAD, or maybe Breed from Nirvana or Hangar 18 from Megadeth. We will see if one of those songs fit well with my electro.

Have you talked to any label yet about a possible signing?
Yes, but I won’t tell anything, because nothing is done.

When can we expect to see your first EP coming out, or do you maybe have other plans?
That’s really possible, but nothing is done yet.

Are you also interested in collaborating with someone else and to start a duo?
Yes of course, now I’m making something with a friend, a band called The Presidents, and we got some nice opportunity as well there we’ll see.

What about working with bands (like productions), is that a big dream of yours?
No, it’s not a dream, because I already work with a band and it’s not easy to do a song that everyone likes, and if you work alone you can do what you want, but it’s more boring I know.

What are your plans for the rest of this year?
To get more gigs and to release a vinyl. With that it’s cool.
